What's in store for the Pogues next? A teaser for Season 4, which dropped Aug. 29, offers a glimpse.
Narrated by protagonist John B. (Chase Stokes), the story seems to pick up right where Season 3 left off. The Pogues have found the treasure they have been searching for since Season 1 hit Netflix in April 2020.
"That's where this story should have ended. But really, it was just the beginning," John B. says.
At the end of Season 3, the Pogues were presented with a new adventure: locating the missing ship of Edward Teach, the pirate better known as Blackbeard, from 1718.

When does 'Outer Banks' Season 4 premiere?
"Outer Banks" will premiere in two parts, Netflix announced Aug. 29.
The first five episodes will hit the streaming service Oct. 10, followed by five more episodes Nov. 7.
What cast members will (and won't) return next season?
"Outer Banks" fans will see their favorite Pogues return to screen for Season 4: John B., Sarah (Madelyn Cline), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), JJ (Rudy Pankow) and Season 3 newcomer Cleo (Carlacia Grant).
Occasional rival and sometimes ally Topper (Austin North) will also return, as well as Rafe (Drew Starkey), according to Netflix's Tudum. Fiona Palomo, who appeared in a few episodes in Season 3 as Sofia, will appear in the fourth season as a series regular.
At the end of Season 3, Ward Cameron (Charles Esten) and Big John (Charles Halford) both died, so it’s unlikely they’ll be back for the next season. (But ... you never know! Ward did fake his death in Season 2.)
Season 4 will also introduce several new characters:
- Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane), who will introduce the Pogues to their next adventure.
- Dalia (Pollyanna McIntosh), "a revolutionary-like leader and worldly baddie on a plunder who comes face-to-face with the Pogues," according to Tudum.
- Hollis Robinson (Brianna Brown), "the biggest realtor on the island who previously worked with Ward in a successful business deal, she now has her eye on Rafe for a new venture."
- Lightner (Rigo Sanchez), a "stranger with a piratical nerve."
- Ruthie (Mia Challis),"a wild child with a toxic streak who develops a close relationship with Topper."
After Season 3 premiered in February 2023, Starkey told TODAY.com he hopes next season his character "settles down and has some sort of normality."
North said he isn't sure what's next for his character.
"I'm going to leave that probably up to the writers," North said. "I'm never really in the room giving too much input but you know, I kind of just wait for the scripts to come in and do my job from there but bit would be nice if he found love."
Meanwhile, Grant said she hopes the next season dives more into her character’s backstory.
“I feel like we’ve spoken so much about Cleo’s backstory of her grandmother and how she was abandoned, so I would love to see Cleo flashback to see like what it was like when she grew up and had those experiences,” Grant said.
What will the plot of Season 4 of 'Outer Banks' entail?
At the end of Season 3, the Pogues were honored for their work solving the 500-year-old mystery of Royal Merchant shipwreck and finding the location of El Dorado.
At the celebration, which occurred 18 months after they found the treasure, they are approached for a search for the missing ship of Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard.
In a release, Netflix said Season 4 will go back in time, starting with the Pogues getting back home to the Outer Banks and trying to resume life after their continent-spanning adventure. They open a bait, tackle and charter tour shop, but some financial setbacks lead them to take up the offer to search for Blackbeard's treasure.
The teaser trailer suggests the adventure will stay local with the tagline, "The adventure comes home."
Season 4 will explore these romantic relationships
Season 3 saw the continuation, or the beginning, of three inter-Pogue relationships: John B. and Sarah, JJ and Kiara, and Pope and Cleo.
All three relationships seem to start out intact in Season 4, based on the teaser.
Speaking to TODAY.com about Season 3, Pankow said he's not sure where JJ's relationship with Kiara will go. "I think in Season 3, JJ is very confused on what's going on and where he stands and hoping that he can find some sort of stability," Pankow said.
Bailey, who plays Kiara, sees her character's relationship with JJ going "a lot of different places."
"A special thing about their relationship is that they have true friendship," Bailey said. "I think as a couple they're going to be both independent and complementary of each other. I think Season 4 is going to be wild for both of us."
As for Pope and Cleo? Grant told TODAY.com the pair has some maturing to do.
"But I think they're going to make it work, like I really do," Grant said. "I'm hoping that you know if we get the opportunity to do more seasons, I think they'll be together, they have each other's backs in a deep way and his mom likes her."
