Following the news that GrindMedia bought out all Transworld titles in May, we found out in late June that GrindMedia has decided to stop all print issues of Transworld Surf. It was a shock to everyone in the surf community. So many talented writers and photographers have been working for that magazine for years, a lot of them our good friends. It's a shame to see the magazine go, but we have no doubt the TWS staff will move on to bigger and better things in the industry. The world of surfing games is truly evolving. Angel Studios made the first big step in that evolution by creating TransWorld Surf on Xbox. Getting a real world feel on a sport that¿s constantly evolving on a medium (waves) that's never quite the same has been a treacherous endeavor, and Angel's path has shown the world it can be done and it can be fun.

What is it that makes grown men and women don skimpy, muscle/figure revealing bikinis and trunks, grab a large slab of streamlined fibreglass and hurl themselves into an unwelcoming, cold and dangerous ocean in an attempt to balance on top of immense, bone-crushing waves? I have absolutely no idea, and having played Transworld Surf for a couple of days, I am still none the wiser. Thankfully, the X-Box game does not include a TV-mounted water cannon to drench you every time you fall off, and nor will sharks suddenly leap from your TV and devour you whole with a side order of shrimp.
